Practitioners want to know more than whether their program works. They want to know what they can do to improve it. To help answers these questions, the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is increasingly focused on identifying and studying the components of its grant-funded programs. In this session, participants will learn about this new research perspective and how they can apply it to their programs. After a brief introduction to the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) National Evaluation, the session will identify the range of program components found across the SRAE grantees. Participants will examine a case study of an SRAE program and work to define and identify the components contained in this program. Participants will also learn about ways to test and refine program components using an example from an ACF-funded healthy marriage and relationship education program.

Three different family constituents bio parent,stepparent,and grieving child bring three different sets of needs into the new family dynamic. In this session, learn how to recognize and validate multiple levels of often competing needs in grieving families. Through case study work within the session, join discussions about ways to nudge family members down a more empathetic path, one in which children have the space to grieve.

Over the past 15 years, Montefiore's Supporting Healthy Relationships Program has delivered healthy marriage and relationship education services to thousands of low-income and underserved couples in the Bronx community. This workshop will summarize our recent research outcomes in order to highlight how SHR successfully stimulates healthy and lasting relationships. We will also demonstrate, using recorded video clips, how we intervene directly with couples within the context of psychoeducational workshops, as well as during individualized “booster” sessions, using process-oriented interventions drawing from Irvin Yalom’s and psychodynamic group therapy and emotionally focused therapy (EFT).
